Hello, and welcome to In My Life Radio. My name is GJ and I'm delighted you've found us...
MY story
Like many people, I can't remember a time when music wasn't part of my life. Some of my earliest memories are of listening to my parents' record collection, where every new song seemed to open the door to another world. Soon came the excitement of the weekly charts on the radio, swapping favourite records with school friends and discovering the artists who would become lifelong companions.
As the years passed, every stage of life seemed to have its own soundtrack.
There was the music that defined my college and university years, the songs that played in student halls, pubs and parties, and the records that became woven into friendships that are still remembered today.
Then came the years of building a career, starting a family and navigating all the joys and challenges that adulthood brings. Through the celebrations and the setbacks, the music was always there—sometimes in the background, sometimes saying exactly what words couldn't.
Life eventually opened the door to an entirely new adventure as I moved abroad to live and work in a different country. It was a chance to begin again, meet wonderful people, experience new cultures and discover fresh perspectives. Once again, music became the constant companion through every new experience.
Along the way I've been fortunate enough to enjoy a lifetime of live music. From seeing The Beatles as a seven-year-old to concerts by some of the greatest artists of the last sixty years, those evenings remain among my happiest memories. There's something magical about live performance that no recording can ever quite capture.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is that my musical journey is still evolving.
Even now I'm discovering artists, albums and songs that somehow escaped me the first time around. It's a wonderful reminder that there's always another masterpiece waiting to be heard.
That's really why I created In My Life Radio.
Not to tell people what they should like.
Not to relive the past through nostalgia alone.
But to share the music that has travelled alongside me through life, and hopefully help listeners reconnect with memories of their own while discovering something new at the same time.
The programmes you'll hear reflect both the decades that shaped popular music and the chapters that shaped my own life. Some episodes celebrate an entire era, others focus on personal milestones, memorable concerts or those hidden gems that deserve far more airtime than they usually receive.
If one song brings back a forgotten memory...If one artist inspires you to listen again...Or if you discover one album you've never heard before...
...then In My Life Radio has done exactly what I hoped it would.
Thank you for listening and for being part of the journey.
I hope you'll stay with me, wherever the music takes us next.
